Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Word Tracer (wordtracer.maxzam.com), a game by Maxzam Games ("we", "us"), collects when you play, how it's used, and the choices you have. Questions? Email contact-us@maxzam.com.

The short version

• You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your email address, real name or contact details to play.
• The player name you choose is shown to other players on scoreboards, leaderboards and in chat.
• Your game progress is linked to a random ID stored in your browser, not to who you are.
• We show ads from Google, which uses cookies. You can turn off personalized ads.

Information you give us

Player name

When you first play, you pick a player name. It's stored in your browser and sent to our game servers so other players can see it on scoreboards, leaderboards and in room chat. Please don't use your real full name or anything that identifies you.

Chat messages

Messages and reactions you send in a room are shown to the people in that room. We keep recent messages only while the room is active, to show them to people who arrive or return between rounds. Offensive words are automatically blanked out.

Emails to us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include, and use it only to reply and to improve the game.

Information stored automatically

In your browser

Word Tracer uses your browser's local storage (not tracking cookies) to remember your player name, your settings (such as tap mode and sound), whether you've finished the tutorial, and two random IDs: one for your profile and one for the current browser tab. These IDs are random codes and contain no personal information.

On our game servers

Linked to your random profile ID, we store your player name, XP, tier, points and game statistics (such as matches played, wins and best word), and your entries on the weekly and all-time leaderboards. We use this to run matches, unlock tiers, show leaderboards and keep the game fair.

Technical data

Like any website, our hosting provider receives technical information when you connect, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is used to deliver the game, keep it secure and fix problems.

Service providers

• Cloudflare hosts the game and its game servers. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
• Google Fonts supplies the fonts the game uses, so your browser requests them from Google. See Google's privacy policy.
• Google AdSense serves ads, as described below.

We don't sell your information.

Advertising and cookies

Word Tracer is free to play and supported by ads. Ads are served by Google AdSense.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
• You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
• Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you'll be asked for consent before personalized ads are shown, and you can change your choice at any time.

Children

Word Tracer is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

How long we keep information

Profile and leaderboard information is kept while the game is running so your progress isn't lost. Weekly leaderboards start fresh each week. Chat messages are kept only while a room is active. Technical logs are kept for a limited time by our hosting provider.

Your choices

• Reset: clearing this site's data in your browser removes your stored name, settings and IDs. Your progress can't be recovered afterwards.
• Delete or access your data: email contact-us@maxzam.com with your player name, and we'll help you see or delete the information we hold about it.
• Ads: use the opt-out links above, or your browser's cookie settings.

Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have additional rights to access, correct or delete your information, or to object to certain uses. Contact us and we'll respond within the time the law requires.

Security

Connections to Word Tracer are encrypted (HTTPS), and we store only what the game needs. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't put personal information in your player name or chat.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the game changes. We'll update the effective date above, and significant changes will be noted in the game.
